Movin' to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches...

Our peaches started ripening this weekend. So tonight I picked as many of them as I could, sliced them, and cooked them. My 12-cup (3 litre) Tupperware mixing bowl was nearly overflowing with them by the time I finished. And there's probably still the same amount left on the tree that aren't ripe yet. So I'll be doing it all over again in a few days.

Hmm...peach cobbler? Peach pie? Peach topping for ice cream? All of the above? Probably. :-)

Slowly getting there...

So. Last weekend I finally made a list of all the baby stuff we need to get. And it's a pretty long list, but we'll get there. And I'm working on ways to shorten it so that we don't need so much ongoing stuff. For instance, cloth nappies instead of disposables. Sorry, I know they're more convenient and popular and all, but I just can't justify the cost. I'd rather buy 3 dozen nappies for $60 just once than spend that much every month on disposables. I'm even looking at the idea of using cloth wipes and washing/reusing them with the nappies. And I got a metre of fleece to cut up into nappy liners. Same reason. And it helps the nappies last longer. And having looked at what's actually in baby formula these days, I'm not even going there. Not ever, if I can get away with it. Why would I buy fake food for my baby when my body can make the real stuff for free without me even thinking about it?

So we've already got a dozen nappies, and some baby clothes from a garage sale, and some other clothes & blankets & things people have given us already. And we have a car seat on layby (regular price $299, sale price $179), because this week was "Baby week" at Target. A cot will probably be next. Mini-rant: Why can't they sell the cot and mattress together? Why do they have to charge nearly $300 for the cot, and then an extra $80 for a mattress? Sheesh.

So. The total amount we've spent on baby stuff so far? Under $60. Unless you count the pregnancy books & baby name book I bought months ago, then it's double that.

I don't know what to title this one.

One thing that's really starting to bug me is how people who I see only occasionally, like every week or two, insist on asking "How are you feeling?" as if they're expecting me to say I'm miserable. I've never been asked this question as much as I am now that I'm pregnant.

That's right. PREGNANT. Not sick. I'm having a baby, not surgery.

So how DO I feel, aside from sick of being asked how I feel? Fine. If I didn't have a growing belly and somebody doing somersaults inside it, I wouldn't even know I was pregnant. I'm having no problems whatsoever, and the ones I was having (leg cramps) have gone away with regular doses of tissue salts. Homeopathy rocks.

Okay, so there is that recurring dream about the baby turning into a kitten, but I wouldn't call that a problem.

Among other things...

Today is Anniversary #3.

We've made a dent in the pile of junk in the "long room" - enough to put together a spare bed, so we now have room for people to stay over. They can't do much else in the room, but they can sleep there. As long as there's not a cat on it. Calico seems to think it's HER bed.

All the books are put away now. Most of Darrin's maps are also put away. So we have this box of flattened boxes sitting outside waiting to go in the recycling bin.

And I've started hanging a few things on the walls. Not that we had that much to begin with. Time to get some of our photos printed and get some picture frames.

And the big apricot tree has pretty much finished fruiting. There might be a few left, but most of the fruit on there has been partially eaten by birds, so it's pretty much useless to us now.

The other day I SAW my belly move when the baby kicked.

We were supposed to turn in our keys on Friday but we haven't been able to contact the landlady. So who knows what's happening with all that. But we've got all our stuff out, including our ceiling fan (which is probably going up in the dining room), and cancelled the contents insurance for the old place.

We have not left the house for a significant period of time since Thursday. The only trips either of us has taken is across the road to pick up snacks. And now we're on our way to Hogsbreath Cafe for anniversary steaks and possibly Cold Rock for ice cream after. Mmmmm....
