Strange obsessions.

So I have this thing, when I eat M&Ms, that I HAVE TO have one of each colour in my hand. I don't know why. Just one of those weird little things that makes me unique. So when I'm pouring them out into my hand, inevitably there's one colour that just doesn't want to come out. And so I have to keep pouring them out till I get one of that colour.

Anyone else do this, or something like it? Please share.

One simple question.

What's with everyone giving Caleb gifts that come in several pieces? Every single piece of every single gift is now strewn across the lounge, dining room, and entry, and the only reason it's limited to those rooms is he hasn't been in any others for a significant length of time in the last couple days. And we're just as guilty as everyone else, buying him two wooden puzzles.

We may break our necks going through these rooms, but at least he's having fun.

How to make pajamas, part two.

Step one is as before...get the baby to sleep.

So yeah, I started actually sewing Caleb's pajamas today. I did a lot of things on this project I've never done before.

Here's what the pattern on the fabric looks like:

And here's Caleb wearing an unfinished shirt:

I think he has a little more growing to do....

So after that picture I added the sleeve cuffs (after some confusion about the instructions) and then we had tea, and watched a movie, and after the movie I went back in to work out button holes. My sewing machine has a setting for automatic button holes, so I did that. And it was a lot simpler than I expected.

And then I tested the buttons, and they fit through the holes. Always a good thing. The only thing I have left on the shirt now is sewing on the buttons - but guess what I don't have in my sewing arsenal. Yep. No hand needles (except the huge ones I use for yarn). So off I go to Big W on Tuesday when everything opens again.

And lastly, here's the nearly-finished shirt:

Maybe I'll work on the pants tomorrow, if I have time after we go to Gawler (we've got yet another Freecycle item to pick up).

Walk this way

From the front of the couch to almost the edge of the carpet between the lounge and the dining room is probably about six or seven feet. Caleb walked that far last night. I didn't count, but it was probably about 20 steps. Still wouldn't say he's officially walking though, not till he's doing that more than crawling. Soon though.

Freecycle to the rescue...again.

So we have a very mobile and curious little boy in our house, and we also have a couple areas of the house that aren't child friendly. Such as the laundry room, with the cat food - which he's already gotten into once - and the cat litter, and cleaning stuff. After the cat food episode, I took the box from the high chair and set it up on the inside of the laundry with boxes of cat food and cat litter behind it to hold it up. But then he pushed it over once and got really annoyed when it fell on top of him. So then Darrin took a set of low shelves and put them in instead. But they're higher than the box was, and wider, and it's tricky getting over them. And ever since the cat food incident I've been looking for a gate to put in the doorway, but I didn't like the prices. So I put a call out on Freecycle on my birthday, but got no responses. Then I put out another one yesterday, and almost immediately a lady in Angle Vale said she had one. So we set up a time for me to go pick it up tomorrow. And then she emailed back saying she'd just remembered she has to pick her husband up from work tomorrow, so she wouldn't be home, and instead offered to DROP IT OFF on her way through Salisbury this afternoon.

I know where not to look the gift horse.

She got here about 1:30. Shortly after that Caleb finally went to sleep, and I set it up across the laundry door (although in retrospect I probably should've moved the shelves first, rather than having to carry them over the gate...). It needed a clean because it had been in her garage for a while, and it could still use some fine tuning, but it's high enough off the ground that the cats can get under it, but low enough that Caleb can't. I call that a win.

Not quite a haystack

So I've been thinking the last few days that I need to get some quilting needles, which are meant for sewing things with several layers, or thick fabric, you get the idea. Looked at the website of my supplier (okay, so it's just an online nappy supply shop, but "my supplier" sounds like I'm actually in business) to check on prices. Thought to myself, hmm, is that the cheap brand or the good brand? Decided I'd better go have a look at what I had in my sewing basket.

Quilting needles. A whole pack of 'em. When did I buy them? I really don't remember. Maybe they just appeared out of thin air. Anyway, at least now I don't have to buy them for a while.

This morning I registered www.littleparapants.com.
