An open letter to the Ten Network

{mosimage}Dear Ten Network,

If you have a show that regularly runs past its alloted time, such as the Big Brother Friday night games, it’s generally common courtesy to put a later time into the TV listings for the shows following said show. Some of us actually watch Veronica Mars and don’t appreciate having to flip back and forth for FORTY-FIVE FREAKING MINUTES to find out if it’s on yet.

Sincerely,

“I’ve got a jar of dirt! I’ve got a jar of dirt!”

Well. It’s now Wednesday morning, 11:07 am, and I’m still in my pajamas. Twelve hours ago we were right in the middle of watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

As a rule, sequels aren’t as good as the original. As a rule, when I’ve been really looking forward to a sequel movie, I’ve been disappointed (Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2). And while, yes, this movie wasn’t quite as original as the original, we both enjoyed it, and for once I wasn’t disappointed.

Although I didn’t like how it left so many things hanging at the end, but hey, they have to have some way get you in to see number 3 next year. 8/10

Um, duh.

So I was in the supermarket a couple weeks ago, and I looked at some raw cat food. Just raw meat in a plastic container. And on the label it said something to the effect of “Research has shown that raw meat is a good food for cats.”

Okay. Cats are CARNIVORES. They’ve always been carnivores. They’ll always be carnivores. Why do we need RESEARCH to tell us that what they eat in the wild – freshly killed raw mice, rabbits, birds, etc. – is best for them?

Movies we’ve seen lately.

Just in case anyone actually cares what I think of movies, here’s what I’ve thought of the ones we’ve seen recently.

X-Men: The Last Stand It was good right up till the end where *cough* killed *ahem*. 8/10

The Avengers Second time I’ve seen it. I think I enjoyed it more this time than the first time. 7/10

Looney Toons: Back in Action Funny in places, and lots of cameos, oh, and a big Wal Mart plug. 6/10

The Brothers Grimm Nearly the entire way through the movie I was thinking “Just get ON with it already!” And killing kittens never goes down well with me. 4/10

Fun With Dick & Jane Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey. Some very funny moments. 7/10

Superman Returns Another “get on with it already” movie. Not much action for a so-called action movie. But if you like the “what it’s like to be a super hero” movies, you’ll like it. 5/10

Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Watched it in preparation for seeing the sequel on Tuesday night, when they only charge half price. Lots of good lines, great characters, great story. 9/10

The Legend of Zorro I pretty much knew the whole rest of the movie was a set-up after Elena got cornered by those two guys. But it made for a good story, and the bad guys got theirs in the end, and they all lived happily ever after. The end. 7/10

The Corpse Bride This was the first time I’d seen any of Tim Burton’s animation, and I was a little disappointed it was so short. I was expecting at least one more scene. Anyway, it was another good story, one where halfway through you really have no idea how it’ll turn out. 7/10

Things to do on one of my days off next week.

  1. Clean toilet. I hate doing it, so it only gets done every few months. Usually about the time it starts to smell.
  2. Clean bathroom. Especially those nasty mouldy spots at the top of the wall.
  3. Clean microwave. Last time I discovered baking soda/bicarb soda works REALLY well. They’re not kidding about it being a deodoriser.
  4. Vaccum (even though I just did it on Sunday). Somebody stepped in some mud and tracked it in on the carpet. I won’t tell you who she was.
  5. Go shopping for a new washing machine. Ours is very sick and nearly on its deathbed. Darrin’s had it for nearly as long as he’s lived in this place (11 years), and it was possibly used then.
  6. Weather permitting: wash clothes and hang them outside on the line. I’m sick of only being able to do one load at a time when I hang them inside.
  7. Do my taxes. This will almost fully pay for the new washing machine.
  8. Work on a few knit/crochet projects I’ve got going.
